We’ve long suspected that AMD would place ray tracing support on the components degree in its Navi 20 GPUs owing out next 12 months. But, Sony could possibly have just spilled the beans on AMD’s ray tracing help.

Sony just discovered some far more data about the AMD Navi-run PS5 in an exceptional job interview with Wired, and in it, Mark Cerny straight up stated “there is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU components”. So, we know at minimum a person AMD Navi GPU in 2020 will support hardware-stage ray tracing. The big concern is, then, how will this mirror on AMD’s desktop graphics cards?

Nicely, we’ve previously heard that ray tracing would be building its way to AMD’s following generation of graphics playing cards: the Navi 20. These graphics playing cards, if serious, will contend with Nvidia at the substantial-end, which is anything that AMD simply isn’t going to do appropriate now. But, not long ago AMD did say it would make a graphics card for “everybody”, so perhaps that features people that want to enjoy Control at 4K with Ray Tracing.

Honestly, we think it’s particularly not likely for AMD to make a GPU going in the PS5 and Xbox Venture Scarlett that will aid ray tracing even though leaving desktop consumers out to dry. We’re fully anticipating AMD to appear out with a line of large-conclude GPUs up coming year – probably even as early as CES 2020.

Both way, we’re absolutely sure AMD will be sharing info on its subsequent graphics playing cards as quickly as its prepared, we just have to wait and see. But, the way we glance at it, the sooner AMD can take Nvidia on in the very same way it did with Intel, the quicker all people on the hunt for a new graphics card wins.
